Cameron Boozer makes future promise if Wizards don’t draft him No. 1

The general consensus is the top four picks in the NBA Draft are already decided, with AJ Dybantsa and Darryn Peterson as the likely No. 1 and No. 2 picks. But Cameron Boozer, who is projected to go no lower than No. 4, believes that he should be the pick when the Washington Wizards are on the clock at No. 1 in the NBA Draft.

“Of course I feel that way. I’m not gonna say I don’t understand why people say that. Those two guys are good players, everyone knows that,” Boozer said during a pre-draft appearance on ESPN. “For me, not being in that conversation, I don’t really understand it. And I think many years down the line, people are gonna look back and say that I should have been.”

While there was chatter in the months leading up to the NBA Draft and following the lottery that the teams wanted to move up to try and select Cameron Boozer, the prevailing thought is he will not fall past the Memphis Grizzlies at No. 3. The former Duke big man is perhaps one of the most NBA-ready of this draft.

During his lone season with the Blue Devils, Boozer appeared in 38 games at a little over 33 minutes per game. He averaged 22.5 points, 10.2 rebounds, 4.1 assists and 1.4 steals with splits of 55.6 percent shooting from the field, 39.1 percent shooting from the 3-point line and 78.9 percent shooting from the free-throw line.

Dybantsa is projected to be the No. 1 pick when the Wizards are on the clock, but only time will tell if Boozer will make either them ultimately regret the pick.
