This 2026 NBA Draft class comes equipped with alpha males. BYU star AJ Dybantsa is sparking stardom chatter while North Carolina big Caleb Wilson ignited “GOAT” conversations. But now Darryn Peterson laid out one challenge, to Victor Wembanyama.
That’s right, the Kansas star isn’t shying away from wanting to take on the San Antonio Spurs star. All 7-foot-5 of Wemby. Peterson began envisioning taking on the Spurs big one-on-one for his first bucket.
“Gonna get to that spot and hit it,” Peterson said, adding he envisions hitting a midrange jumper on Wemby.

Peterson is exuberating confidence ahead of learning his draft fate. Many fans and analysts envision the Kansas star falling behind the projected No. 1 overall pick Dybantsa.
Peterson indeed is sparking theories that he’ll land second overall, per NBA insider for ClutchPoints Brett Siegel.
“After canceling his workout with the Utah Jazz, Peterson told reporters at the NBA Draft media day on Monday that he met with Jazz officials over the weekend. It seems pretty clear at this point that Peterson knows he’s going to be the second pick, which will put him in a very favorable position with the Jazz team ready to emerge as the next youthful threats in the Western Conference,” Siegel wrote.
Peterson can re-galvanize a fan base itching to see a playoff contender again. Especially in the post Donovan Mitchell universe. The Jayhawks star can rise as the immediate face of the franchise by landing at second overall. But names like Duke’s Cam Boozer and UNC’s Wilson present their cases to follow the projected top pick Dybantsa at No. 1.
