The Atlanta Hawks have had a busy start to the 2026 offseason, recently extending the contract of CJ McCollum and trading for Oklahoma City Thunder wing Aaron Wiggins. The Hawks have also extended head coach Quin Snyder following the team’s impressive run down the stretch of the 2025-26 season, which ended with them taking the New York Knicks further than any other team.
Now, the Hawks may have a new face joining the front office, and it’s a familiar one to NBA fans.
“ESPN NBA reporter Tim Bontemps is in advanced talks to join the Atlanta Hawks’ front office, sources told Front Office Sports. A deal has not been finalized, one source said. Spokespeople for the Hawks and ESPN declined to comment,” reported Ryan Glasspiegel and Alex Schiffer of Front Office Sports.
Reporters joining front offices has been a growing trend over the last few years, and Bontemps would be just the latest big name media member to follow suit, if he indeed ends up joining Atlanta. Bontemps has done solid reporting work for ESPN for a number of years and is also a member of the acclaimed “Hoop Collective” podcast for the network.
Meanwhile, the Hawks are looking for ways to continue to retool around Jalen Johnson, Dyson Daniels, and the rest of their young core this offseason. The Hawks have prioritized positional versatility and length under general manager Onsi Saleh, who also received a contract extension of his own recently, and the results paid off with their surge up the standings to a top-six seed down the stretch of last season.
In any case, up next for the Hawks is the NBA Draft, which is set for Tuesday evening, where they will have the number eight overall pick.
