AJ Dybantsa reveals unselfish plan for first paycheck ahead of 2026 NBA Draft

As AJ Dybantsa prepares to likely be the No. 1 overall pick in the 2026 NBA Draft on Tuesday night, he would speak before the event about his future. With Dybantsa making a mark ahead of the NBA Draft, the BYU Cougars star answered questions about his incoming contract.

With the expectation that he is going to be the first name called on Tuesday night as the No. 1 overall pick by the Washington Wizards, former player and ESPN analyst Iman Shumpert asked Dybantsa about his first contract. Asking the 19-year-0ld what he would buy first when he gets the money, Dybantsa mentioned something relating to his sister.

“My little sister just got her permit. So if she get her license sometime, she might get a car… maybe,” Dybantsa said, via @ohnohedidnt24 on X, formerly Twitter, originally from ESPN.

Regarding Dybantsa’s status of where he will go when the start of the first round of the 2026 NBA Draft begins, it seems pretty locked and loaded that the BYU sensation will go to the Wizards.

While the only other player that seems in contention for the first overall pick is Kansas Jayhawks guard Darryn Peterson, picking anybody but Dybantsa “would go against everything the Wizards have dreamed for over the last few seasons.”

“Although Darryn Peterson has been given a long look by the Washington Wizards and is a prospect they truly like, the fact of the matter is that passing on Dybantsa and his pure talent on the wing would go against everything the Wizards have dreamed for over the last few seasons,” Siegel wrote on Tuesday in ClutchPoints’ final mock draft regarding Dybantsa.

At any rate, it remains to be seen if Dybantsa holds to his words regarding his sister.
