Things are happening in the NBA! After a relatively quiet period (except for the ongoing celebrations in the NYC area) the NBA did some stuff yesterday.
First off, the draft starts at 7PM on ABC/ESPN. I won’t be spoiling picks here, I’ll just go off the ESPN feed, but of course you can comment down below. In previous years I’ve commented on every pick, but with two straight years of the Rockets not having a first round pick, I’ll admit my research was scantier than usual.
First, Giannis has not somehow left the Bucks and stayed in Milwaukee. He’s a Heater. The Greek Freak and Mr. Punch are heading to Miami for what looks to be a pretty big haul: Tyler Herro, Kel’el Ware, Jaime Jaquez, and Kappy Jakucionis, three first-round picks (2026 13th pick), a pick swap and a second rounder. Still on the roster are Bam, Norm Powell, and Andrew Wiggins. Miami needs some guards, but it’s not clear how they’ll get them.
The Timberwolves paid the Nets to take Julius Randle, sending him and the 2026 28th pick to Brooklyn. Brooklyn sends the 33rd pick to Minnesota, and Nic Claxton goes to Chicago for Mo Gueye. So Chicago is paid for facilitating this deal, basically.
I think we’ll see more trades on draft night, maybe even involving the Rockets. It would be good if the Rockets found a cheapish way to get into this draft where they could take another guard, as, honestly, FVV and Reed aren’t enough guards.
The Washington Wizards are on the clock.
