Trae Young’s first message to AJ Dybantsa after Wizards’ No. 1 pick

The Washington Wizards officially used the No. 1 overall pick in the 2026 NBA Draft on former BYU Cougars star AJ Dybantsa. He joins an exciting roster consisting of veterans Trae Young and Anthony Davis, along with 2025 first-round pick Tre Johnson.

Shortly after the pick was made, Young shared a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, welcoming the 19-year-old forward to Washington. Young seems excited to begin working with Dybantsa, as the Wizards’ rebuild is taking shape.

“Welcome to D.C., AJ Dybantsa!!” proclaimed Young. “The story has been written. The City is Ready! We’ll talk about that [number] soon.”

Trae Young, who is 27 years old, referenced the fact that he and Dybantsa wear the same jersey number, No. 3. The new Wizards teammates will surely have a discussion about who will wear that number moving forward.

Dybantsa joins the Wizards after playing one year at BYU. He played 35 games for the program, displaying elite scoring abilities with high-level defensive skills as well. The First-Team All-American ended the 2025-26 campaign leading the nation in points per game with 25.5, while also averaging 6.8 rebounds, 3.7 assists, and 1.1 steals per contest. He hit those numbers while shooting 51.0% from the floor and 33.1% from beyond the arc.

This story is currently developing, and more information will be published soon.
