Darius Acuff Jr. praised Jalen Brunson’s NBA Finals run Tuesday during 2026 NBA Draft coverage, before the former Arkansas standout began his NBA career as a lottery pick.
Brunson led the New York Knicks to their first championship in 53 years and won Finals MVP, giving smaller scoring guards a recent example of success on the biggest stage.
Oh No He Didn’t shared a clip of Acuff’s comments on X, formerly Twitter, as the guard discussed Brunson’s impact.
“It’s great to see a guard like that go to work. Us 6-2, 6-3 guards we got heart so just to see him and go out there and play and prove everybody wrong that was just great to watch. I was tuned into every game. Best of luck to him for the rest of his career. He’s a great player for sure”

Acuff’s remarks came during ESPN’s NBA Draft coverage Tuesday. The former Arkansas guard entered draft night as one of the top scoring prospects in the class after a freshman season that included program freshman scoring records, a 49-point performance against the Alabama Crimson Tide, and the Bob Cousy Award as the nation’s top point guard.
His comments connected directly to Brunson’s championship run with New York. The Knicks superstar’s success offered a timely example for guards who face questions about size but rely on scoring, handle, and toughness to control games.
Acuff specifically pointed to Brunson’s heart and ability to prove doubters wrong, saying he watched every game of the Knicks’ title run. The quote also reflected how closely incoming NBA prospects followed New York’s Finals breakthrough.
Now, the 19-year-old guard is headed to the Sacramento Kings after going No. 7 overall in the NBA Draft, while Brunson’s championship run continues to resonate with younger guards entering the league.
