Jude Bellingham doesn’t want POTM award after England-Ghana World Cup draw

After England and Ghana played to a draw in their second match of the 2026 World Cup, it didn’t seem like a in for anyone on the Three Lions. Still, Jude Bellingham was named the Superior Player of the Match. The Real Madrid star didn’t want any part of that, though, and gave credit to his opponents.

“Yeah, I didn’t deserve it, to be honest. It probably should have gone to one of their lads that defended so well,” Bellingham said. “[I] had a couple of moments. It was hard to get in the game, and I’m grateful to everyone who voted, but it probably should have gone to one of their lads that defnded so well. So, fair play to them … I think they played for the draw, as it would have seen them go through, and fair play to them. They did a great job.”

It was interesting to hear Jude Bellingham give Ghana credit, as he got into a scuffle with the bench of England’s opponents while walking off the pitch at halftime.

The 22-year-old did give a nod to the Three Lions’ history, which is filled with looking great on matchday 1 of World Cups, then falling down on matchday 2.

“Like always, second game fever, isn’t it?” Bellingham said with a grin. “With England, win the first one, then draw the second one, but it’s okay.”

And England will likely be “okay” after its draw with Ghana. The team still sits in first place in Group L, with only a last-place to play. A win in that match should see then through to the Knockout Round after winning the group.
