Bucks make first picks of post-Giannis Antetokounmpo era after blockbuster Heat trade

The Milwaukee Bucks are set to enter a new era after trading longtime franchise star Giannis Antetokounmpo to the Miami Heat. With the 10th and 13th overall picks in the 2026 NBA Draft, the Bucks added a pair of players they hope will lead the franchise into their next chapter.

With the 10th pick, Milwaukee selected guard Brayden Burries. He is fresh off leading Arizona to the Final Four in the 2026 NCAA Championship.

Burries spent one season with the Wildcats, appearing in 39 games. He averaged 16.1 points, 4.9 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game while shooting 39 percent from behind the arc. The guard was named to the Big 12 All-Freshman team as well as First-team All-Big 12.

At No. 13, the Bucks used the first draft pick of numerous they received from the Heat in the Giannis deal. There, they selected Tennessee forward Nate Ament.

Ament spent one year at Tennessee, appearing in 35 games. He averaged 16.7 points, 6.3 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game while shooting 33 percent from there. Ament was named to the SEC All-Freshman team and Second-team All-SEC overall.

Prior to their most recent campaign, the Bucks made the playoffs for nine straight seasons. However, in their last three appearances, Milwaukee didn’t advance past the first round. After missing the postseason altogether, it was clear to the organization that they must prepare for life post-Antetokounmpo.

Burries and Ament are now here to help create the new vision of the Bucks. They’ll enter the franchise already with lofty expectations on their shoulders. But Milwaukee wouldn’t have selected them 10th and 13th respectively if they didn’t think they were up for the task.
