The Chicago Cubs and New York Mets are playing on Tuesday night. Injuries have unfortunately played a significant role in the game. Mets star Juan Soto exited the game due to left side back tightness. Later in the matchup, Cubs starting pitcher Edward Cabrera exited the game with an apparent injury after covering first base, video via SNY.

Cabrera was carted off the field following the injury scare. According to Taylor McGregor, Cabrera left the game due to a left hamstring/adductor strain.
Cabrera has dealt with injury concerns this year, but Tuesday’s game still was his 14th start of the season. The Cubs acquired Cabrera during the offseason, but the right-handed starter has struggled while on the mound. Through his first 13 outings, Cabrera has pitched to a 5.21 ERA across 67.1 innings of work.
Despite his struggles, the Cubs are obviously hopeful he will not have to miss too much time. He is still an impactful pitcher, and Chicago’s rotation has dealt with no shortage of injury concerns throughout the 2026 season.
Updates on Edward Cabrera’s injury status will continue to be monitored and provided as they are made available.
Overall, the Cubs are 40-37 as of this story’s writing. The ball club has endured a rather inconsistent overall campaign, but they are still in the postseason conversation. Chicago is in third place in the National League Central standings right now. They are currently eight games behind the Milwaukee Brewers for first place in the division.
While Cabrera’s injury exit is far from ideal, the Cubs do hold a 7-2 lead over the Mets as of this story’s publication.
