Suns trade up to land Arizona star they badly wanted after Knicks-Mavericks swap

The Phoenix Suns weren’t originally a part of the first round of the NBA Draft on Tuesday night, but they made a late trade to get involved in the action. Just before the end of the first round, Phoenix traded with the Dallas Mavericks to move up to No. 30 overall and select Arizona star Koa Peat, per ClutchPoints NBA insider Brett Siegel.

The full deal went through the New York Knicks, who acquired No. 47 overall and two more second-rounders from the Suns for Peat after acquiring No. 30 from Dallas. ESPN’s Shams Charania had the full details of the trade, which also sent Spanish forward Sergio De Larrea to Dallas.

The Suns have long been after Peat, and the two had been linked for a while leading up to the draft. He should come in and help solidify Phoenix’s young front court right away in front of star guard Devin Booker.
