Dianna Russini once called NFL coach to get out of police ticket, but it wasn’t Mike Vrabel

Months before the Dianna Russini and Mike Vrabel scandal broke, she was pulled over and in danger of receiving a police ticket for driving while texting with her two sons, and she tried to use an NFL coach to get out of it.

This wasn’t the first time that she had been pulled over that month. However, as she recounted on Stugotz and Company (via The New York Times), she tried to reason with the officer that she was breaking news that the Buffalo Bills had fired Sean McDermott.

That didn’t move the needle, since the cop was a fan of another NFL team. She then tried to connect him with his favorite team’s NFL coach.

Russini did FaceTime the coach, and he tried to get her out of the ticket. The unnamed coach said, “You should let her go, she’s a good citizen.”

The incident with the cop happened a couple of months before the biggest scandal of her career broke. Pictures were published of Russini and Vrabel at a Sedona resort that started speculation of an inappropriate relationship. They are both married to other people.

After the scandal leaked, Russini resigned from The Athletic. She had served as the publication’s lead NFL insider since 2023. Meanwhile, Vrabel remains the head coach of the New England Patriots. In his first year as the team’s head coach (he spent eight seasons with the team as a player, winning three Super Bowls), they made it to the Super Bowl, losing to the Seattle Seahawks.

More and more pictures and videos surfaced in the coming weeks. The earliest photos were from 2020 and were taken months before Russini married her now-husband.

It now appears Russini is done being a journalist. As the Times notes in their report, she referred to herself as a “former journalist” in a text she didn’t want shared.
