The Boston Celtics are back in a loud NBA trade rumor cycle after insider Chris Mannix linked Jaylen Brown’s uncertain future to a possible Evan Mobley pursuit. The Celtics reportedly explored a Giannis Antetokounmpo trade, but that pursuit fell short. Instead, the Miami Heat put together the best offer. Now, Mobley has surfaced as a possible target, adding weight to Celtics trade chatter as Boston listens on a Jaylen Brown trade.

“But the Celtics, I believe, are listening to those calls. They are also, you know, picking up their own trade matches of their own,” Mannix said. He added that he spoke with several teams that afternoon about what kind of trade targets Boston might want for Brown.
“And the name and the team that came back to me a lot was Evan Mobley and the Cleveland Cavaliers,” Mannix said. “Mobley is one of those guys that could fit the archetype of the type of player that the Celtics are looking for.”
That would be a stunning pivot for Boston. Brown brings star power and championship experience. Mobley would give the Celtics a younger defensive anchor with rare length and upside. Under the bright lights of TD Garden, that kind of move would not just change the roster. It would shake the franchise.
Celtics face complicated path toward Jaylen Brown trade
Mannix also made it clear that any Celtics deal for Mobley would be difficult.
“Now, if it is a deal they’re interested in, it is a complicated deal to make because the Cleveland Cavaliers are a second apron team,” Mannix said.
“They need to match dollar for dollar value with the player that goes out,” he added.
Shams Charania also reported that the Celtics have kept listening on Brown talks even after the failed Giannis pursuit. That does not guarantee a deal, but it does show intent.
Celtics fans can read the message clearly. Boston may still be chasing its next big swing.
