Exclusive: Horace Grant promises “wild” Horce Grant Day celebration in honor of late Bulls teammate Stacey King

The Chicago Bulls dynasty of the 1990s produced some of the most illustrious characters in the history of the game. Among them was a 6’10 forward from Clemson, Horace Grant.

Grant was the quintessential blue-collar player. He dove for loose balls, attacked the glass, and played with sheer grit. Along the way, Grant became one of the most beloved players from the first three-peat from 1991-1993.

Fast forward to 2026, and all that hard work is paying off. On Thursday, Grant will be recognized with his own day in Chicago, per Fox 32 Chicago. By the power vested in the Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson, June 25 will be “Horace Grant Day”.

“It’s such a humbling honor in terms of such a great city like Chicago,” Grant said to ClutchPoints. Enjoying myself with my former teammates and friends. I can’t say enough about the city, and it’s such an honor.”

“In terms of coming to the city in 1987, I gave my heart and soul to this city on the court and in the community, helping out as much as I could. I didn’t see it coming; it’s such an honor.”

An honor befitting a player who put his heart and soul into the game.

Horace Grant gave the Bulls his all.

Grant played for the Bulls from 1987 to 1994. Grant received NBA All-Defensive Second Team honors four consecutive years (1993 to 1996). He also blocked Kevin Johnson’s shot in Game 6 of the 1993 NBA Finals, capping off the three-peat.

From 1994 to 1999, Grant played with the Orlando Magic. He then played for the Seattle SuperSonics and Los Angeles Lakers. But Chicago will always be home for him.

“Having the opportunity to live here amongst the people, I couldn’t be happier,” Grant said.

Lately, he’s been chopping it up with former teammates and opponents on his TV series “Legends in Session with Horace Grant” on Urban Grind TV. The first season featured 13 episodes where Grant interviewed the likes of Scottie Pippen, Phil Jackson, Charles Oakley, Toni Kukoc, Penny Hardaway, and his brother Harvey.

In each episode, the players sign memorabilia that is then auctioned off to charity. A concept that is radically different than other shows.

“The series is about giving my former teammates and current athletes their flowers before it’s too late,” Grant said. “One of the great things about legends in sessions is that we give back to individual charities. We are going to sell some of the jerseys. A lot of shows don’t do that.”

Grant’s endeavors and honors come with a heavy heart.

Horace Grant celebrates the life of his former Bulls teammate, Stacey King

Grant and Bulls are still grappling with the loss of Stacey King at age 59. The beloved player-turned-broadcaster was a fixture in the city, touching so many lives along the way with his trademark humor and man-of-the-people demeanor.

It’s been a tough time for Grant, who refers to King as the “ultimate friend”.

“You’re going through stuff in life, he was a shoulder you could cry on,” he said. “He had great listening qualities. He was just that ultimate friend. Chicago is going to miss him. I am going to miss him as a brother, as a friend, as a teammate.”

Meanwhile, he is going on with his celebration and keeping Stacey in his heart and soul.

“If he were still with us, he would have been with us at that celebration. On his behalf, we will celebrate. It’s going to be wild and something if he were here, he would love it.”
