Celtics ‘actively engaged’ in Jaylen Brown trade talks after Giannis pursuit

After being featured in the Celtics potential trade package to acquire Giannis Antetokounmpo, Jaylen Brown has officially found himself on the trade block. During ESPN’s broadcast of the second round of the NBA draft, Shams Charania indicated that the Celtics are engaged in trade talks surrounding the 2024 Finals MVP.

“The Boston Celtics are actively engaged in trade talks surrounding Jaylen Brown with multiple interested teams. And I’m told there is a sense of purpose from teams around the league that they feel from the Celtics in these conversations.”

Shams Charania, however, did not report that a deal was imminent, highlighting Brown’s supermax deal. Brown remains under contract through the 2028-29 season after signing a five-year, $304 million supermax extension in July 2023. He is also eligible to negotiate an additional two-year extension worth approximately $142 million.

“That does not mean, though, that a deal is guaranteed, because Jaylen Brown does have three years left on his contract. He’s got a supermax deal that he’s on. From my understanding, the urgency from either side could change as the weeks go on…His status is very much up in the air in Boston.”

Brown turned in another stellar regular season for the Celtics in 2025-26, appearing in 71 games while averaging 28.7 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 5.1 assists per contest. He also shot 34.7% from beyond the arc, continuing to establish himself as one of the NBA’s premier two-way wings. Although his contract carries a hefty price tag, Jaylen Brown’s consistent scoring production and history of elevating his play in the postseason could make him an appealing trade target if Boston decides to explore moving him.
