Brazil got the job done in their final game of Group C play in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with Vinicius Jr. staying hot.
Vinicius and company earned a dominating 3-0 victory over Scotland on Wednesday to close out the stage atop the group table with a 2-1-0 record.
The Real Madrid forward scored a goal just seven minutes into the match, as Brazil capitalized on a miscue by Scotland defender Scott McKenna to take a 1-0 lead at Miami Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida.
With that goal, Vinicius did something no player from Brazil had done in over two decades, as he became just the first one from A Seleção to score in each group stage game of a FIFA World Cup since 2002.
Via ESPN FC: “Vinicius Jr. is the first Brazilian player to score in all three group stage matches since R9 and Rivaldo in 2002. Putting on for his country.”
It was another masterclass for Vinicius, who scored another goal in the 45th minute to give Brazil a 2-0 lead. He had a goal before that was overturned by Video Assistant Referee (VAR), but that did not stop him from lighting it up with an insurance score.
Matheus Cunha added to Brazil’s lead with a goal in the 60th minute, the final one in the match, as Brazil now head to the knockout stages.
Brazil opened their 2026 World Cup campaign with a 1-1 draw with Morocco, with Vinicius scoring the lone goal for his side. In the 3-0 win over Haiti in their following match, he had a goal and an assist, as Cunha led Brazil with two goals.
