Timberwolves add Isaiah Evans after NBA Draft green room disappointment

Duke wing Isaiah Evans did not hear his name called during the first round of the NBA Draft despite being invited to the green room. But disappointment soon turned to contentment as Isaiah Evans was selected by the Minnesota Timberwolves with the No. 33 pick in the second round of the NBA Draft.

The Timberwolves were able to select Isaiah Evans after pulling off a trade with the Brooklyn Nets to acquire the No. 33 overall pick in the 2026 NBA Draft. It was the same trade from earlier this week in which the Wolves sent Julius Randle to the Nets and the Nets sent Nic Claxton to the Chicago Bulls.

Evans was a first round talent who ended up slipping, and he can potentially factor in to the Wolves rotation immediately as a rookie. He is projected 3&D type wing who also brings quite a bit of athleticism to the lineup. The team is going to be without Donte DiVincenzo for probably all of next season as he recovers from an Achilles injury. That potentially opens up immediate opportunity for Evans.

Evans played two seasons with the Blue Devils before declaring for the NBA Draft. Last year, he appeared in 38 games, moving into a permanent starting role, at a little over 28 minutes per game. He averaged 15.0 points, 3.2 rebounds and 1.3 assists with splits of 43.3 percent shooting from the field, 36.1 percent shooting from the 3-point line and 86 percent shooting from the free-throw line.

The Wolves potentially got a second round steal with the former Duke wing, and fans will no doubt be eager to see him in action during summer league.
