Knicks make another NBA Draft trade before Round 2

The New York Knicks are back wheelin’ and dealin’ again in the 2026 NBA Draft.

Just before the start of the second round of the draft on Wednesday, the reigning NBA champions reportedly made a trade with a Western Conference team, according to Shams Charania of ESPN.

“Sources: The New York Knicks are trading Nos. 31 and 55 to the Houston Rockets for Nos. 39 and 53 and a 2029 Kings second-rounder. The moves begin for night two of the NBA Draft,” Charania shared via a social media post on X, formerly Twitter.

That 31st pick overall in the 2026 draft was used by the Rockets to select Ohio State Buckeyes guard Bruce Thornton, the first name off the board in Round 2.

The Knicks got busy on the first night of the draft, striking deals on trades with the Los Angeles Lakers, Dallas Mavericks and Phoenix Suns.

New York traded the 25th pick overall (Sergio De Larrea) to the Dallas Mavericks for the No. 30 overall pick and a pair of future second-round picks.

They used that 30th pick, who turned out to be Arizona Wildcats product Koa Peat, to make a deal with the Suns to gather three additional second-round picks.

After ending the franchise’s 53-year NBA title drought, the challenge now for the Knicks is to find ways to get better in the offseason for their upcoming championship defense. At the same time, they also want to keep their financial situation at an ideal spot, which is below the second apron. That partly explains the moves they made so far in the 2026 edition of the NBA Draft.
