The Chicago Bulls were on the clock with the No. 38 overall pick in the second round of the 2026 NBA Draft which they ended up sending to the Indiana Pacers in a trade involving Kam Jones. In exchange for Jones, the Pacers received the draft rights to Smith who was one of the best point guards in college basketball last year while at Purdue.
Following the NBA Draft night trade, it remains to be seen how Kam Jones factors into the Bulls’ plans. The former Marquette standout was the No. 38 pick in the 2025 NBA Draft by the Pacers, and he is entering the second year of a four-year rookie contract he signed last year. He has one more year after that before having a team option for the 2028-29 season.
Jones was a rotation player at times for the Pacers during his rookie season, appearing in 37 games, including seven starts, at a little over 16 minutes per game. He averaged 4.4 points, 1.6 rebounds and 3.2 assists with splits of 40.2 percent shooting from the field, 29.3 percent shooting from the 3-point line and 50 percent shooting from the free-throw line.
The Bulls are entering a rebuild, and Jones could potentially be a piece of their young core. The entire team underwent a revamp following the end of the regular season, with the organization bringing in Bryson Graham as the vice president of basketball operations, and Tiago Splitter as their new head coach.
The Bulls had a rather strong first round of the NBA Draft, selecting Caleb Wilson with the No. 4 overall pick and Dailyn Swain with the No. 15 pick.
