Texas Tech football is turning the page after the Brendan Sorsby fallout. Now the Red Raiders filled his roster spot with another College Football Transfer Portal addition. But this one coming with All-American honors in tow via the Division II ranks.
Pittsburgh State safety Jordan Rogers is heading to Lubbock, with college football insider for On3/Rivals Pete Nakos revealing the move.
“The Division 2 All-American finished 2025 with 85 tackles, four forced fumbles, five interceptions and five pass breakups,” Nakos adds.
Rogers to TTU rises as a Lone Star State homecoming. He’s a native of Bellmead, Texas and went on to become one of the more dominating D2 performers.
Perhaps TTU will aim to ride the wave of game-changing transfers from the NCAA D2 ranks. Ole Miss thrived with Trinidad Chambliss at quarterback, leading into a College Football Playoff run.
But Rogers adds a big need on the defensive side. The reigning Big 12 champs sustained big losses due to the NFL Draft, including star linebacker Jacob Rodriguez. But edge rusher David Bailey is the biggest loss on the defensive side, landing at No. 2 overall to the New York Jets in April. San Diego State transfer Trey White rises as Bailey’s projected replacement.
So now Rogers joins a defensive back room that brings back Brenden Jordan for his senior season. Cornerback Brice Pollock is the biggest returner for this defense.
Yet once again Texas Tech is moving forward from losing Sorsby suddenly. The quarterback’s controversial gambling issues and a still-not-dismissed Big 12 lawsuit helped persuade his supplemental draft decision.
