ClutchPoints’ Week 4 WNBA power rankings

The 2026 WNBA season has already reshaped expectations across the league. Traditional contenders are in a close battle for the top position, while several teams that entered the year with playoff aspirations are still searching for consistency. The current standings provide a snapshot of results, but they do not always capture who is playing the best basketball right now.

The league picture is beginning to come into focus with over a month of action now in the books, even though plenty can still change over the rest of the regular season. This week’s WNBA power rankings reflect which teams have hit another gear in Commissioner’s Cup play and built the strongest early cases for potential postseason dominance.

1. Minnesota Lynx

No team enters the second week of June with more momentum than the Lynx. A seven-game winning streak has transformed them from a slightly expected contender into the W’s team to beat for the second year in a row. What makes their rise even more impressive is that they have continued winning despite lineup challenges and still playing without a key contributor in Napheesa Collier.

Star rookie Olivia Miles has accelerated her development far faster than most expected, providing elite playmaking and scoring while fitting seamlessly into Minnesota’s disciplined system and breaking records along the way. The Lynx have combined efficient offense with one of the league’s stingiest defenses, giving them the strongest overall standing in the WNBA power rankings. Their recent performances have not been a fluke — they have consistently controlled games from start to finish and appear capable of beating anyone.

2. Dallas Wings

Dallas has quietly become one of the WNBA’s most dangerous teams. The Wings have won four straight games and continue to climb behind a balanced attack that does not rely on one player carrying the offense every night. Their ability to generate points in transition and pressure opponents has made them difficult to prepare for on short rest. While Minnesota owns the top spot, Dallas has built a legitimate argument as the biggest challenger for it so far. The Wings are playing with confidence and have shown a level of consistency that few expected before the season began.

3. Las Vegas Aces

The Aces remain near the top because elite talent still wins games. Las Vegas is riding a three-game winning streak and has looked increasingly comfortable after an uneven opening stretch. The offense has not always been explosive by Aces standards, but both A’ja Wilson’s and Chelsea Gray’s high level of play has helped stabilize the team. Their road success has been especially impressive, leading to a 6-1 away record and proving that this group can handle difficult environments. The goal of repeating as champions remains in sight as the team continues to trend in the right direction.

4. Atlanta Dream

Atlanta deserves recognition for turning potential into results. The Dream sit second in the league in wins and continue finding ways to close competitive games. Their roster cohesion has been a major strength, which has been a pleasant surprise due to how new some of the players are. Atlanta rarely beats itself with careless mistakes and has consistently produced winning basketball throughout the campaign so far. The Dream’s position near the top is fully earned.

5. New York Liberty

The Liberty have started to resemble themselves again. New York has won four consecutive games and appears to be settling into a rhythm after a very uneven and slightly concerning beginning to the 2026 WNBA season. The combination of experience, shooting, and star talent remains among the best in the league, but the team trails the top four in these rankings because of the questions the earlier inconsistencies brought up, especially around the lineup’s cohesion when fully healthy. The Liberty have shown enough over the past week to move firmly back into contender territory, though, as their recent stretch suggests they are building toward something bigger as the campaign progresses.

6. Golden State Valkyries

Golden State continues to be one of the best stories in professional basketball. The Valkyries have spent much of the early season proving that their unprecedented success last season wasn’t a fluke. Even after dropping two straight games, they remain hovering above .500 and have held their own against more established elite franchises. The recent losses to the Lynx and Aces prevent them from landing any higher, but the Valkyries’ body of work remains impressive. They have continued to exceed expectations while solidifying an identity built on toughness and collective effort.

7. Toronto Tempo

This expansion franchise deserves significant credit. Toronto has stayed competitive since finding its footing and now officially sits above .500 and in seventh place in the league after winning its most recent contest. The Tempo have shown resilience throughout the 2026 WNBA season, avoiding the extended losing streaks that often derail new teams thanks to the veteran influences of Brittney Sykes, Marina Mabrey, and breakout star Nyara Sabally. Toronto’s ability to remain in the playoff picture this early is a testament to smart roster construction, disciplined execution, and the expert leadership of head coach Sandy Brondello.

8. Indiana Fever

Indiana is still pretty difficult to evaluate. The Fever possess enough offensive talent to threaten elite opponents, but they have struggled to build sustainable momentum. Sitting at a .500 record reflects their struggle to break out of the middle of the pack and live up to their full potential. Even Caitlin Clark has been inconsistent offensively, putting up her second-lowest point total of the season in a loss to the Liberty just a week after a season-worst performance versus the Portland Fire.

The Fever can score in bunches and play at a fast pace, but defensive lapses continue to appear at unfortunate moments. Indiana is still firmly in the postseason conversation for now, but they need greater consistency to challenge the league’s upper tier.

9. Los Angeles Sparks

The Sparks have been inconsistent in the first month of play, but they remain more competitive than their place in these rankings suggests. Defensive issues have prevented Los Angeles from turning winnable games into solid victories in some cases. Still, there is enough talent and experience on the roster to lead to significant improvements if the team can make all the pieces click. The Sparks remain a team capable of surprising opponents on any given night, even if the results have been uneven.

10. Portland Fire

Portland has been one of the season’s surprises, but recent results have cooled some of the enthusiasm. A three-game losing streak has exposed areas where the brand new squad still needs improvement, but the Fire remain competitive. They have already shown enough quality to prove they belong in the playoff race, so their challenge now is responding to adversity and avoiding a prolonged slide.

11. Washington Mystics

Washington sits in the middle ground between contender and rebuilding team. The Mystics have stayed competitive despite bouncing back-and-forth between wins and losses or having moments where their young age and WNBA inexperience show. Washington’s 4-5 record does not jump off the page, but it has proven it has the ability to frustrate stronger opponents and remain within striking distance in most games. A major stumble in a blowout loss to the Dream sets the Mystics back a bit, but they continue to outperform many preseason expectations.

12. Phoenix Mercury

The Mercury have shown signs of life with consecutive victories, which lifts them out of the bottom three. A disappointing start to the 2026 WNBA season dug them a significant hole, but the recent improvement suggests Phoenix is not ready to disappear from relevance. The team still needs more consistent offense and better overall execution, but breaking a six-game skid this past week has been encouraging compared with their difficult beginning.

13. Chicago Sky

Chicago remains stuck in a frustrating cycle. The Sky compete hard, but too many games have followed the same script — stretches of strong play, mostly led by Skylar Diggins, followed by costly lapses — and their power rankings placement reflects those recurring issues. While the Sky are not too far behind several teams in the middle tier, they have not provided enough evidence recently to suggest things will turn around soon or justify a higher position.

14. Seattle Storm

Seattle’s rebuilding effort has produced more questions than answers. The Storm have dropped five games in a row and keep searching for reliable offensive production. Their young core, especially their top draft pick Awa Fam, offers long-term promise, but the short-term results have been difficult to watch. Until the Storm discover a clearer identity, they remain near the bottom.

15. Connecticut Sun

The Sun take the final position simply because they have not shown enough improvement to escape it. Connecticut owns the league’s worst record and has struggled on both ends of the floor. The team has still not established a foundation that consistently translates into competitive performances. There are definitely young stars worth watching on this team, but their overall results place the Sun firmly at the bottom.

As the calendar moves deeper into June, the gap between teams is beginning to emerge, even though the race remains far from settled. The Lynx have established themselves as the team to beat, while the Wings, Aces, Dream, and Liberty are rising to challenge Minnesota as fellow legitimate championship threats. Meanwhile, the Valkyries and Tempo have become some of the W’s most compelling stories by exceeding expectations and cementing themselves firmly in the postseason conversation.

Lower in the rankings, several teams still have time to change the narrative of their seasons, but urgency is starting to increase as every game becomes more important in the playoff race. If the opening month has proven anything, it’s that the 2026 WNBA season is shaping up to be one of the most competitive and unpredictable campaigns the league has seen in years.
