MLB rumors: Insider isn’t expecting Yankees to trade for Tarik Skubal

The New York Yankees have been without Aaron Judge since the end of May. Despite that, Paul Goldschmidt has put the team on his back, and the Yankees are still in first place.

While they are still in first, there is worry that the Yankees could still need more help, but it will not be Tarik Skubal, according to Mark Feinsand of MLB.com.

” I don’t think there’s a need for the Yankees to overreact, as they have played pretty well since Judge landed on the injured list. That said, Brian Cashman is excellent at identifying what his team needs, then going out and getting it by the Deadline. A right-handed-hitting catcher would likely be high on the priority list, as would some more bullpen help,” Fiensand began.

“The rotation has been very good and will get Max Fried back at some point, so I don’t think Cashman will get involved with any starting pitching sweepstakes such as Tarik Skubal. As always, the Yankees will do whatever they think they need to in order to put themselves in position for the postseason. And at some point in the second half, they’ll add Judge back into the lineup, which will be the biggest acquisition of all.”

The Yankees’ pitching has been solid this year. They are leading the majors with a 3.34 ERA while being tied for second in team WHIP. Cam Schlittler has been phenomenal on the mound, with a 1.71 ERA and a 0.89 WHIP while going 8-2. Meanwhile, Gerrit Cole is also back in the rotation and has been pitching better as of late. Max Fried should be back near the trade deadline, giving them a solid three-man rotation for the playoffs. This does not include the fact that Carlon Rodon, Ryan Weathers, and Will Warren are all on the staff.

The Yankees are 48-31 on the season, which gives them the best record in the American League. They open a four-game series with the Boston Red Sox on Thursday night.
