Spike Lee surprises Knicks fans ahead of Game 3

Spike Lee is making sure his fellow New York Knicks fans are ready for Game 3 of the NBA Finals.

The die-hard Knicks fan was seen handing out Knicks merch ahead of Game 3 of the NBA Finals, where they will face the San Antonio Spurs. Lee was seen smiling with fans and handing out T-shirts to them prior to tip-off.

Lee’s presence is expected from someone who has continued to support the team for decades. Stephen A. Smith — who is also a diehard fan — shared on ESPN’s First Take today, June 8, that the director deserves a championship ring.

“I don’t want one. I didn’t earn it,” Smith said. “Only Spike Lee deserves that. I don’t deserve that… But I will tell you this much, I don’t need one.”

Smith also gave some advice to his beloved team before tip-off as the New York leads the NBA Finals 2-0, Smith warned them, “don’t blow it.”

Lee’s gesture is appreciated as many die-hard fans will not be able into Madison Square Garden due to the astronomical ticket prices. Some of the lower tickets have listed over nearing 10,000 with some even skyrocketing to six figures. Knicks’ Josh Hart spoke about the “unfair” pricing.

“I kinda wish the ticket prices weren’t as crazy as they were. I feel like a lot of people who have been waiting on this moment for a long time are unfortunately not able to get into the building, with the cheapest ticket being seven or eight thousand dollars. That’s ridiculous,” Hart said.

The Knicks face the Spurs for Game 4 as they lead 2-0 in the series and head to their first home game at Madison Square Garden tonight. Tip-off is set to begin at 8:30 pm ET.
