Ivar Stenberg opens up on possibility of being selected No. 2 overall by Sharks

The San Jose Sharks have the No. 2 pick in the NHL Draft and are preparing to add to their team. Ivar Stenberg, who is one of the top prospects in the draft, spoke about possibly being selected by the Sharks with that second pick, according to Sharks insider Sheng Peng.

“Stenberg on potentially going to #SJSharks at No. 2: “I would be happy to go there, for sure. [They] have something good going on. It would be a dream.” On playing with Celebrini: “That would be pretty fun. He’s one of the best in the world,”  Peng wrote on X.

The Sharks also have the No. 9 overall pick, which they acquired from the Florida Panthers. This gives them flexibility in what they might do. With the Toronto Maple Leafs likely selecting Gavin McKenna, all eyes will be on Stenberg. If San Jose drafts him, he likely starts as a middle-six winger.

The Sharks would likely shift him to a top-six role the following season. Ultimately, he would play alongside Macklin Celebrini. After barely missing the playoffs last season, there is hope in San Jose. The Sharks are pushing for players who can help them get over that hump. When the NHL Draft begins, there will be higher expectations and an urgency to make moves to improve the team.

With the NHL Draft fast approaching, there are a plethora of options about what the Sharks can do in the NHL Draft. Stenberg played in Sweden’s top league, finishing with 33 points across 43 games. Additionally, he netted 10 points in seven games at the 2026 World Junior Championship. If the Sharks select him, they will have a player who is ready to go.
