Mets’ season gets even worse with Marcus Semien injury update

New York Mets infielder Marcus Semien is reportedly expected to be placed on the injured list, according to Chelsea Janes of SNY.

“Mets are expected to place Marcus Semien on the injured list this afternoon, according to a person familiar with the situation,” Janes reported.

The Mets later announced that Semien was placed on the 10-day IL due to a hip flexor strain. Right-handed pitcher Daniel Duarte and infielder Ronny Mauricio were recalled in corresponding moves while right-handed pitcher Jonathan Pintaro was returned to Triple-A following Wednesday’ doubleheader, the team also announced.

The Mets have struggled all season. New York had high expectations for the ’26 campaign, but things clearly have not gone according to plan. Their doubleheader on Wednesday against the Chicago Cubs was especially disastrous, as they allowed 20 total runs between the two games in a 10-3 and 10-5 loss. The Mets also made five errors in one of the games.

Losing Semien to injury will only make things worse. The 35-year-old has endured a difficult season, but he is still an impactful veteran. Overall, he has hit .214/.271/.341 across 80 games played in 2026.

Updates on Marcus Semien’s injury status will continue to be monitored and provided as they are made available. It remains to be seen how much time he is expected to miss with the hip flexor strain.

New York currently trails its four-game series with the Cubs 3-0. The Mets are obviously hoping to avoid a sweep. The final contest of the series is scheduled for Thursday night at 7:10 PM EST.
