Fever’s Caitlin Clark urged by ex-NFL MVP to ditch WNBA

Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark is not only a WNBA superstar, but she has become the most popular player in the league since making her debut in 2024. However, the Fever believe Clark often receives “cheap shots” from opponents during games which are not always called by the referees, which is something head coach Stephanie White explained during a recent press conference. Many Fever fans agreed with White’s take. Various media opinions have surfaced as well, as even former NFL MVP Boomer Esiason weighed in on the matter. Esiason went as far as to say that Clark should consider leaving the WNBA, via Awful Announcing.

“If I were Caitlin Clark, I would seriously consider going to play overseas somewhere and get the royal treatment, and get real money,” Esiason said. “… I think that there’s a petty, petty jealousy. She’s a straight white basketball player. And she is not being treated with any sort of respect whatsoever.”

Clark has also called out WNBA officiating in the past. While Esiason’s “jealousy” take will obviously cause debate among fans, there is no question that Clark does receive hard contact on a consistent basis, and some of that hard contact is not always called. Basketball is a physical game and fans do not want to see referees make too many calls, but there have been some missed calls when it comes to Clark.

Nevertheless, Caitlin Clark has found success while on the court. She has dealt with injury concerns at times, though. Clark has appeared in 17 games this season, averaging 21.2 points, 8.2 assists and 4.0 rebounds per outing during that span.
