It’s well-documented that Barack Obama is a Chicago Bulls fan, particularly of the Michael Jordan-led teams of the ’90s, who won six championships.
During an interview with the All the Smoke podcast, the former president raved about the ’90s era of basketball. Given his allegiance to the Bulls, it makes sense that this was his favorite era.
“For me, the 90s was peak basketball because I was here in Chicago with Michael and the Bulls. But you watch some of those old classics, they’re tough, and folks are physical,” he explained. “There weren’t really flagrant fouls; you basically had to fend for yourself. Folks just weren’t shooting that many threes, so everything’s kind of packed in the paint… Now, the amount of wear and tear just seems a lot because even the big guys can shoot now.”

Despite his love of the ’90s, Obama remains a basketball fan. It’s hard to blame him for his affinity with that era, though, as he has a deep tie to Chicago.
The Michael Jordan-led Bulls teams were dominant

In the ’90s, the Bulls won six championships with MJ. They accomplished two three-peats, winning three championships in a row from 1991 to 1993 and again from 1996 to 1998.
Jordan was named NBA Finals MVP in all six series. This was a dominant stretch, as MJ and the Bulls never lost a Finals series. They accomplished this despite Jordan taking a break to play baseball.
Since the Bulls’ last championship with Jordan, they have yet to win another title. They haven’t even made the NBA Finals since then.
MJ was a special, one-of-a-kind talent. He won five NBA MVP awards in his career, and he was also a 14-time All-Star. Currently, he serves as a minority owner of the Charlotte Hornets, a role he has held since 2006.
