Mets’ Jorge Polanco runs, but limps back to dugout amid Achilles rehab

With the New York Mets dealing with injuries to key players, like still awaiting the return of Jorge Polanco, there are some developments in his recovery. As the Mets have described Polanco’s injury as a tricky situation, there is no denying that the recent events with him correct that sentiment.

Polanco has been recovering from an Achilles injury, as the last game he played for New York came on April 14 in the 2-1 loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers. On Thursday, Polanco was seen doing some drills, like running from first to third base, as shown by SNY Mets, but Chelsea Janes would report that he was seen “limping in the clubhouse.”

“Jorge Polanco was limping in the clubhouse today, but Luis Robert Jr. is out running first to third at what looks like pretty close to full speed. Make of both what you will,” Janes wrote on X, formerly Twitter.

While there is still some work to be done, Polanco will still need more time, as was the sentiment related by the president of baseball operations, David Stearns. He would be asked on Tuesday if Polanco could be back before the All-Star break, which starts on July 13, and while the hope is they will, Stearns called it a “tricky one” to figure out.

“Yeah, certainly our plan and belief is yes,” Stearns said, via SNY Mets. “This has clearly been a tricky one, and so I think until he’s back on the field at the major league level, it’s going to be tough for any of us to say conclusively exactly what’s going to happen here.”

At any rate, it remains to be seen when Polanco can come back for New York and try to help this team recover its underwhelming season.
