The San Antonio Spurs entered the NBA Draft feeling confident about their ample supply of guards, but they were obviously dissatisfied with their frontcourt depth. Across the two-day extravaganza, the Western Conference champions grabbed three big men who excel at rebounding, rim protection or both. One member of that trio arrives to The Lone Star State with big-game success and an upbeat mindset.
Former UConn star Tarris Reed Jr. explained to reporters why he can be a nice complement to franchise keystone Victor Wembanyama moving forward.
“The Lord blessed me with a great wingspan (7-foot-4), great size, great physicality,” the No. 26 overall selection said on Thursday, per the Spurs Nation X account. “I feel like it’s going to be great playing alongside, playing with Wemby, whatever my role is this year. That’s going to help on the defensive end, help me grab and snag offensive rebounds on the offensive end, and just be a force on both sides of the court.”

Reed averaged an impactful 14.7 points, 9.0 rebounds and 2.0 blocks per contest last season, but he was dominant during the 2026 NCAA Tournament. He led the Huskies to the national championship game by overpowering opponents in the low-post area. The 22-year-old used his 6-foot-10, 263-pound frame to full advantage, posting 31 and 27 against Furman and flourishing in high-profile matchups versus Michigan State, Duke and Illinois.
The Spurs are counting on Tarris Reed Jr. to hold his own against NBA centers. Although plenty of adversity lies ahead, this newcomer is clearly ready to work.
