Mark Williams is reportedly intending to sign a three-year, $38 million contract with the Phoenix Suns, Shams Charania of ESPN reports. The Suns starting center, who is a restricted free agent, is set to return to Phoenix. The Suns are hoping to compete next season, and Williams will play an impactful role in their potential success.
Williams dealt with some injury concerns this past season, but he still helped the Suns during their postseason run. After spending the first three years of his career with the Charlotte Hornets, Williams joined Phoenix for the 2025-26 campaign. He appeared in 60 games (55 starts) and established himself as a reliable center with the Suns.
The big man averaged 11.7 points and 8.0 rebounds per outing during the 2025-26 season. Williams also shot 64.4 percent from the field. He accomplished a lot in his first season with the team. Williams may be even better moving forward as he now has more experience with Phoenix.
The Suns will be an interesting team to follow. They want to build a legitimate contender around Devin Booker. Phoenix ended up with a 45-37 record in 2025-26, which was good for eighth place in the talented Western Conference. The chances of the Suns realistically building a team good enough to compete with the Oklahoma City Thunder, San Antonio Spurs and other top contenders are slim, but anything is possible.
It will be intriguing to see what other moves the Suns end up making. The Mark Williams signing is a tremendous start to what could be a big offseason for Phoenix.
