Stars rumors: Jason Robertson rejected $120 million contract from West team

The Dallas Stars are working to solve their Jason Robertson dilemma before the 2026 NHL Draft. Robertson is a restricted free agent this summer, and the Stars are lacking the cap space needed to re-sign him. With the draft less than 24 hours away, it seemed as if Dallas had found a solution with the Seattle Kraken. Unfortunately, that has been shot down for now.

The Kraken and Stars had reportedly agreed to the framework of a trade involving Robertson, according to Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman. Seattle received permission to speak to Robertson about a contract. However, he has reportedly declined an eight-year contract worth a total of $120 million.

At this time, the exact details of the agreed-upon trade are unknown. Friedman did report that Seattle’s seventh overall pick in the upcoming NHL Draft would have been included in the deal, though. There has been no official comment on this matter from either team or Robertson.

This is certainly a devastating blow for the Kraken as their search for a top-six forward continues. Robertson is not the first trade target to reject them, either. Earlier in the season, Seattle was in on Artemi Panarin. However, he declined their offer in favor of joining the Los Angeles Kings.

The Stars will now attempt to move forward with another possible trade partner. Dallas is looking to resolve this one way or another. And they would like to do so before other teams can offer sheet the elite scoring winger. Only time will tell if general manager Jim Nill can figure this one out before July 1.
