On Monday night, news broke of a trade between the Minnesota Twins and Arizona Diamondbacks. According to Nick Piecoro of The Arizona Republic, the Diamondbacks have traded relief pitcher Taylor Rashi to the Twins in exchange for cash considerations. Just last week, the Diamondbacks had designated Rashi for assignment, but the Twins saw something in Rashi that made them think it was worthwhile to acquire him before giving another team the chance to do so.
Rashi is already 30 years of age, but he only has two years of big-league experience under his belt. In 2026, Rashi hasn’t gotten much burn for the Diamondbacks anyway after putting up a horrid ERA of 9.82 in the 3.2 innings he pitched.
Rashi’s bread and butter is his slider, helping him make up for his lack of fastball velocity. The 30-year-old showed that he can miss bats consistently, striking out over a batter per inning, rate-wise, for the entirety of his minor-league career, and that translated in a brief cameo for the Diamondbacks in 2025. In his big-league debut, Rashi struck out 12.12 batters per nine innings across 16.1 innings of work.
The Twins, however, are going to have to get in the lab to try and help the 30-year-old cut down on his walk rate. His command has been rather erratic throughout his career, but that will be the facet of the game he will need to improve upon if he were ever to nail down a spot in the team’s bullpen moving forward.
This is shaping up to be a crucial stretch in Rashi’s career. Should he impress with the Twins, this could be the turning point he needs to break away from being a career minor-leaguer.
Rashi was a 23rd round pick for the San Francisco Giants all the way back in 2019, and the Diamondbacks acquired him in the Rule 5 Draft back in 2022.
