Spurs’ Victor Wembanyama, Stephon Castle combine for historic NBA Finals feat

The San Antonio Spurs entered a far more hostile arena compared to Frost Bank Center. Madison Square Garden flashed a light show and brought out New York Knicks fans refusing to cheer low. Everyone representing New York aimed to rattle Victor Wembanyama, Stephon Castle and a Spurs team already down 2-0 in these NBA Finals.

Except Wemby and Castle hit league history to get back into this series.

San Antonio disrupted the Knicks’ sweep pursuit by winning 115-111 at MSG. The young Spurs stars made 22-and-younger history in the process with these marks hit per ESPN Insights.

“Victor Wembanyama (22 years, 155 days) and Stephon Castle (21 years, 219 days) are the youngest duo (by average age) in NBA history to score 20+ points each in a Finals game,” the account posted on the social media website X, formerly known as Twitter.

Wemby delivered 32 points on the evening. Castle dropped 23 points through 38 minutes of action.

The former clearly took Game 3 of the finals personal. Wemby executed a costly late turnover and then missed the final basket attempt to lose Game 2. But the second-year pro set the tone out the gate in front of the loud crowd.

He glided his way to nine early points in the first quarter even while drawing contact.

He even kept his composure when a “F— you Wemby” chant broke out during the second half. Wemby is now the latest NBA star to take advantage of being inside the iconic MSG.

But the same with Castle, who came to the league one year after Wembanyama. Castle pierced the dagger in with this 3-pointer with under two minutes left.
