ESPN analyst Stephen A Smith might not be Boston Celtics All-Star Jaylen Brown’s biggest fan, but he still had to call out one of his fellow colleagues for an eye-opening stat about the All-NBA forward. While the Celtics are reportedly listening to offers for Brown, ESPN’s Bobby Marks says Jaylen’s analytical stats aren’t doing Boston any favors, as potential suitors were stunned by his staggering numbers.
Marks reported that Brown’s analytical stats have him ranked outside the top-5 Celtics players, he said, per X, formerly Twitter.
“I had an analytics guy tell me, ‘We view [Jaylen Brown] as the seventh-best player on a TEAM.’”
Smith, amid his back-and-forth with Brown regarding Jaylen accusing the veteran journalist of being unethical, who wholeheartedly disagreed with Marks and his analytics guy’s recent findings.
“Now this is utterly ridiculous. I have no doubt that [Bobby Marks] was told what he said he was told (He’s incredible at what he does) — but there is no way in hell [Jaylen Brown] is the 7th-best player on any team in the NBA,” Smith said. “He may be the best 2-way player in the league. Yes, it’s me saying this. Folks be on some b.s. Stop It!”
Despite Jaylen Brown coming off the most productive season of his career, in which he, without Jayson Tatum, led the Celtics to the second-best record in the Eastern Conference, reports indicate his trade value is lower than expected, especially for ESPN’s Stephen A Smith.
However, while the Celtics lost the Bucks’ Giannis Antetokounmpo sweepstakes to the Miami Heat with a Jaylen Brown-led offer, the Celtics’ Brown has not requested a trade from the team. Still, after Antetokounmpo’s trade to the Heat, he’s been the subject of the next All-Star to leave the only NBA team he’s ever played for.
