The Toronto Maple Leafs are involved in a trade Saturday with the St. Louis Blues, as Toronto continues to rebuild. Toronto is sending defenseman Brandon Carlo to St. Louis for two draft picks, per the team.
Toronto is getting two third round NHL Draft picks, Sportsnet Canada reported. The selections are the 73rd and 76th overall picks in the 2026 NHL Draft.
Carlo was limited by injuries during the 2025-26 season. He posted just seven points.
“He dealt with injuries for a chunk of the year, missing nearly two months from mid-November to January after undergoing foot surgery. He also missed time near the end of the season with a lower-body injury,” Sportsnet reported.
In his career, Carlo has posted 119 points. He will bring some experience to this Blues team, which missed the Stanley Cup Playoffs in 2025-26.
“The Blues, meanwhile, have made their second major acquisition of the off-season, having swung a deal with the Anaheim Ducks for centre Mason McTavish on Friday,” the outlet said.
St. Louis won the final four games of the regular season. The Blues almost made the postseason, after posting 86 regular season points. St. Louis needed help on defense, as the club allowed 258 goals during the 2025-26 season.
The Maple Leafs meanwhile are rebuilding after also missing the playoffs. Toronto fired head coach Craig Berube after a tough season, and replaced him with former assistant Jim Hiller.
Toronto used the first overall selection of the 2026 NHL Draft on young winger Gavin McKenna. The Maple Leafs haven’t won a Stanley Cup title since 1967.
