The Detroit Pistons’ acquisition of Isaiah Joe may have created another roster question as the franchise continues reshaping its backcourt ahead of free agency.
According to ClutchPoints NBA insider Brett Siegel, veteran sharpshooter Duncan Robinson has emerged as a player whose future is now uncertain after Detroit acquired Joe from the Oklahoma City Thunder in exchange for two future second-round picks.
Joe joins the Pistons after establishing himself as one of the NBA’s most reliable perimeter shooters during his four seasons in Oklahoma City.
“Other than dealing with Duren’s contract situation, the Pistons sent two future second-round picks to the Oklahoma City Thunder on Friday for sharpshooter Isaiah Joe,” Siegel wrote.
“Unfortunately for the Thunder, Joe was a casualty of cost-saving measures. He now joins the Pistons after shooting over 40 percent from 3-point range each of the last four seasons in Oklahoma City.”
Siegel also highlighted Joe’s long-range production.
“Joe has made 681 threes in this span, the 25th most in the NBA.”
Pistons’ Isaiah Joe trade puts Duncan Robinson’s future in focus

The addition immediately strengthens Detroit’s outside shooting, but it could also have implications for Robinson.
“After trading for a 3-point specialist, many around the league are now wondering whether this will lead to Duncan Robinson’s departure,” Siegel wrote.
“With the Pistons angling themselves to pursue Norman Powell and others in free agency, Robinson’s contract could become vital to free up needed funds.”
According to Siegel, Robinson’s contract structure gives Detroit considerable flexibility. His salary for the 2027-28 season is non-guaranteed, and only $2 million of his current salary is guaranteed if the Pistons choose to waive him.
“That would essentially be $14 million extra that Detroit would have to operate with in free agency to add Powell or someone else,” Siegel wrote.
Detroit enters a pivotal offseason after finishing 60-22 and earning the No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference before falling to the Cleveland Cavaliers in the second round of the playoffs.
The Pistons have already addressed one need by acquiring Joe, one of the league’s premier 3-point specialists. However, with Detroit continuing to pursue additional shooting and offensive playmakers, Siegel’s reporting suggests Robinson’s roster spot and contract could become increasingly important as the front office evaluates its next move.
