The Atlanta Hawks have identified the frontcourt as their next area of focus after an active start to the offseason.
According to NBA insider Marc Stein, Atlanta is pursuing a trade for a big man as the organization continues reshaping its roster ahead of free agency, which begins Tuesday.
“The Hawks are on the trade hunt for a big man, league sources tell @JakeLFischer and me.”
The reported priority comes after a series of moves that have already altered Atlanta’s roster and coaching staff. The Hawks extended veteran guard CJ McCollum, acquired Aaron Wiggins in a trade with the Oklahoma City Thunder and signed head coach Quinn Snyder to a contract extension.
Atlanta also added several young pieces during the 2026 NBA Draft. The franchise selected Kingston Fleming with the No. 8 overall pick before drafting Zuby Ejiofor at No. 23. The Hawks later selected Narcisse N’Goy with the No. 57 pick and immediately traded his rights to the Los Angeles Clippers in exchange for Henri Veesaar.
Big man search highlights Hawks’ offseason plans
Adding another center or frontcourt player would further address a roster looking to build on last season’s success. Atlanta finished 46-36 during the 2025-26 campaign, earning the No. 6 seed in the Eastern Conference.
The Hawks also proved to be one of the toughest postseason opponents the eventual NBA champion New York Knicks faced. Atlanta won two of the first three games in the first-round series, taking a 2-1 lead before New York rallied to advance. The Hawks remained the only team throughout the playoffs to hold a series lead over the Knicks and win multiple games against the eventual champions.
With much of the roster already addressed through extensions, trades and the draft, Atlanta’s attention now appears centered on strengthening its interior. Whether that addition comes before or after free agency opens remains to be seen, but the Hawks are expected to remain active as they look to take another step forward in the Eastern Conference.
