Why Rod Brind’Amour isn’t revealing starting Hurricanes goalie for Game 4

The Carolina Hurricanes are trying to climb back into the Stanley Cup Final, after falling behind 2-1. Carolina’s head coach Rod Brind’Amour says he’s keeping mum about who will start Game 4 in net.

“I’m going to keep it quiet,” Brind’Amour said after Carolina’s practice Monday, per NHL.com. “It’s the only suspenseful thing around here that I have to hold on to. It seems to have taken on a life of its own, so I kind of enjoy it.”

The Hurricanes will be pushed to the brink of elimination if they lose Game 4. Carolina has used both Frederik Andersen and Brandon Bussi in net during this series.

“They both have their strengths,” Hurricanes forward Taylor Hall said. “But Bussi is a guy that tends to have some really, really strong games and then some games where he would like to have some back. But we saw all season long some of the saves and some of the moments that he had, and he was really cool to watch.”

Bussi has found himself in net quite a bit this season. He started a team-high 39 games during the regular season.

“He’s a huge reason why we are where we are right now,” Hurricanes defenseman Jaccob Slavin said about Bussi. “He’s a big presence back there – literally (6-foot-4, 218 pounds) and figuratively. He’s been awesome for us. … He’s been so humble about it all, and then he gets tossed into the deep end of the pool last game and he came up with some massive saves.

“We don’t make that comeback (four goals in the third period of Game 3) like we did — it didn’t end the way wanted it to, but we don’t even have a chance of making that — if not for him.”

Game 4 of the Stanley Cup Final is at 8:00 ET on Tuesday, in Vegas.
