The Indiana Fever got a much-needed win on Monday night. Indiana squeaked past Washington 78-76 thanks to a beautiful game-winning logo shot from Caitlin Clark. One key figure on the Fever delivered a clear message to Clark’s haters after the exciting conclusion.
Fever coach Stephanie White did not hold back when talking about Clark’s signature moment against the Mystics.
“Sometimes we take great players, and certainly generational talent, for granted,” White said after the game, per ESPN. “What she did was incredible for us. She’s going to have many more moments like that. I know she is. And we needed this one tonight.”
Clark sunk the long 3-pointer with just 1.2 seconds remaining in the game, putting Indiana up by two. It was a crucial bucket after Clark missed two free throws that put the team into a dangerous situation.
Critics of Clark and the Fever have been out in full force amid the team’s turbulent start to the season. Getting a big win helps, but White explained that the noise may never be quiet around Clark during her WNBA career.
“I don’t know that the noise is ever going to be quiet,” White said. “This is what Caitlin does. She makes big shots, and she has big moments.”
Clark’s clutch 3-pointer was only her second career game-tying or go-ahead bucket with five seconds or less left in a game. Oddly enough, the first also came against the Mystics earlier this season. She drained another 3-pointer to force overtime in a tight loss back in May.
Indiana is now above .500 with a 6-5 record on the season. Hopefully they can ride this momentum into their next game and get another win.
Next up for the Fever is a home game against the Sky at 7PM ET on June 11th.
