Yankees’ Aaron Boone drops Cody Bellinger truth bomb after clutch moment vs. Guardians

The New York Yankees defeated the Cleveland Guardians by a final score of 7-5 on Monday night. In a potential postseason preview, New York earned the win in extra innings. Cody Bellinger came through with a clutch 10th inning RBI hit, something that led to a reaction from manager Aaron Boone after the ball game.

“Two strikes, not trying to do too much, just put a really good at-bat together,” Boone said of Bellinger’s two-RBI hit to give the Yankees a 7-5 lead in extra innings, via MLB.com. “That’s why he’s Cody Bellinger, he’s a great player. He’s just a tremendous athlete, tremendous bat-to-ball. Obviously we love him up in those spots.”

Bellinger has arguably been the Yankees’ most overlooked star so far in 2026. Aaron Judge understandably received no shortage of attention before he suffered an injury. Ben Rice has been one of baseball’s best breakout stars this season. However, Bellinger’s performance should not be ignored.

The Yankees outfielder is currently hitting .276/.373/.474 across 64 games played. He has also hit nine home runs, 13 doubles and three triples to go along with seven stolen bases. Bellinger’s performance has been especially crucial with Judge out due to injury.

The Yankees are technically in second place in the American League East standings at the moment with their 39-26 record. However, that only comes down to percentages, as the first place Tampa Bay Rays are 38-25. The Yankees are obviously hoping to move past the Rays and take over first place.

The ball club will play the Cleveland Guardians once again on Tuesday night at Progressive Field at 6:40 PM EST.
