The New York Yankees are looking for wins since Aaron Judge is out with an injury. New York got one on Monday, in a thrilling 7-5 victory over the Cleveland Guardians in extra innings. Yankees slugger Cody Bellinger spoke out about the win.
“That took the whole squad there. Well-battled, and the bullpen did a great job,” Bellinger said, per MLB.com. “…That was just a good win overall.”
New York used a lot of players to defeat Cleveland in 10 innings. The team needed seven relievers to work in order to post the win. Yankees manager Aaron Boone had a powerful statement to say about the contest.
“It wasn’t pretty, but it was gritty,” Boone said, per MLB.com.
Bellinger was the hero for the Bronx Bombers. He knocked a two-run single in the 10th, to ultimately make the difference.
“I had a job to get done, and I wanted to do that and keep it simple and not do too much,” Bellinger said.
The Yankees are taking no win for granted. New York is hoping to return to the World Series, after a disappointing end to the 2025 season in the ALDS. Without Judge, the Bronx Bombers know everyone needs to step up in order to accomplish this goal.
“All of us in this locker room understand it’s going to take everybody, and today was a great example of that,” Bellinger said.
This is Bellinger’s second season in New York. He is batting at a .276 average this season with nine home runs. The outfielder also has 43 RBIs on the campaign.
The Yankees are now 39-26 on the season with the win. New York is battling the Tampa Bay Rays for first in the American League East.
The Bronx Bombers take on the Guardians again on Tuesday. New York has now won three of their last four games.
