MLB rumors: Why fans may need to be patient for possible Tigers’ Tarik Skubal trade

For the last few weeks, the MLB world has been waiting to see if the Detroit Tigers might make a blockbuster deal involving star pitcher Tarik Skubal. Skubal has been injured recently but is now working his way back into the lineup, and the Tigers’ struggles this year might make a trade the best route for them to go.

Recently, MLB insider Jon Morosi of the MLB Network explained why fans probably shouldn’t hold their breath on a deal going down in the immediate future.

“I believe the Tigers ultimately will listen to trade offers for some pending free agents, but they are not in a hurry to make moves. They have won 5 of 6. Their playoff chances have increased to 23.7%, per @fangraphs. Lots of time until Aug. 3,” he noted on X, formerly Twitter.

Indeed, the Tigers still have nearly two full months to go until the MLB trade deadline in early August, and at this point, it wouldn’t seem to make sense for them to rush things on the Skubal front.

Skubal has been appearing in the minor leagues recently as he works his way back from an injury, but it doesn’t seem to be anything so severe that it will limit how much teams are willing to give up for the star pitcher.

Numerous teams around the MLB have been linked to Skubal in a potential trade as they look to add more star-caliber pitching ahead of the postseason. If the Tigers continue to win and claw their way back into the standings, they might end up being motivated to hold onto him through the season.

The Tigers will next take the field on Tuesday evening at home against the Minnesota Twins.
