Why Giants fans are calling Logan Webb out after Nationals clash

In the San Francisco Giants’ series opener against the Washington Nationals, the team would record another loss on Monday night, 4-3, despite a great effort from starting pitcher Logan Webb. As the Giants are experiencing struggles, Webb’s outing was a standout, though fans are having trouble with his comments after the game.

Webb would go eight innings and throw 99 pitches, striking out seven batters, allowing one run and five hits, as manager Tony Vitello got criticized for taking the pitcher out in the ninth inning. However, Webb revealed the conversation of Vitello asking him if he’s able to go back in the ninth, with the 29-year-old saying “it’s up to you,” leading to the change and the blown win in the ninth inning.

“Tony asked if you’re good, and I said ‘It’s up to you,'” Webb said, according to KNBR. “‘It’s your decision.’ He came back to me (bottom of the 8th), and he was like ‘we’re gonna make a change.'”

“I don’t regret that decision at all,” Webb continued.

Giants fans call out Logan Webb for comments

With the Nationals scoring the three runs in the ninth inning needed to beat the Giants, there’s no denying the anger fans are feeling, especially toward Webb’s comments, as one user on X, formerly Twitter, called it out.

“‘It’s up to you.’ wtf does that mean? Is Webb insane? How about – good to go, coach to rip their throats out. And would have thrown 12 more pitches and won,” Robert Anthony wrote on X.

Two other commenters among many would imply that most of the blame should be on Webb instead of Vitello.

“If he felt good, he should have told Tony he felt good. I really dislike these pro players and how weak they are. Man up, big guy, and gut it out. If you can’t, then admit it,” Lisa Cunningham wrote on X.

“Yeah, that’s on Webb,” CBO wrote on X. “He didn’t want to take accountability if the game went sideways, and it did.”

At any rate, Webb’s next start for San Francisco comes on Sunday afternoon against the Chicago Cubs.
