Rangers rumors: New York unlikely to re-sign veteran forward

It was another disappointing season for the New York Rangers in 2025-26. After missing the playoffs for a second straight year, it seems the front office will be making some major moves this offseason, including the Rangers potentially trading Vincent Trocheck.

While the team continues to weigh the idea of trading Trocheck, they have made a decision on another forward, according to Peter Baugh of The Athletic.

“The expectation is that Jonny Brodzinski will sign elsewhere after six seasons with the Rangers. The 32-year-old was a depth forward for the organization, shifting between the No. 13 forward role and a bottom-six (and occasionally higher in the lineup) option,” Baugh wrote.

Brodzinski was the 148th selection of the 2013 NHL Draft by the Los Angeles Kings. He would break into the NHL with the Kings in 2016-17, playing in six games.  Brodzinski then would spend 2019-20 with the San Jose Sharks organization before joining the Rangers organization ahead of the 2020-21 campaign.

He has bounced back and forth between the AHL and the NHL in his time with the Rangers. Overall, he has played in 207 games, scoring 27 goals and adding 32 assists in his time with the team. This season, he played in just 55 games, finding the back of the net six times while adding ten helpers, but was often a scratch from the lineup.

Brodzinski has not found a consistent footing at the NHL level. His career high in games came this past season, with 55 games played. His career high in goals came in 2024-25, when he lit the lamp 12 times. Now, he will be looking to join his fourth NHL franchise.
