The Chicago Blackhawks are striving to return to greatness, after some down years in the NHL. Chicago has an exciting prospect headed to the Windy City. Winger Roman Kantserov is getting ready for his debut in the NHL.
The Russian star is opening up about what is in store for him.
“Sometimes in my home, you are thinking about this, you are watching the NHL clips, and you think, yeah, maybe I can do the same things, same stuff on ice,” Kantserov said, per The Athletic. “Sometimes I feel confident. It was not easy (to leave the KHL and Russia), but it’s not too hard. Of course, it’s my home, but I want to play in best league all the world. I am very proud to sign this contract.”
The winger recently signed an entry-level contract with the Blackhawks. He has also played at center at times. Chicago drafted him in the 2023 NHL Draft’s second round. Kantserov was selected 44th overall.
“He’s a major piece that we’re just really, really excited about,” Blackhawks general manager Kyle Davidson said. “Have a lot of faith in what he’s going to do for us.”
Chicago finished the 2025-26 season with 72 points. The Blackhawks missed the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Chicago finished at -62 in goal differential.
The Blackhawks hope that Kantserov can help the team’s offense moving forward.
“Our understanding organizationally, whether it was to me or development people, is that his goal is to win a Stanley Cup,” Davidson said to The Athletic. “He’s won a championship in Russia. He wants to come to North America. He wants to play in the NHL. That was something that he’s vocalized; he’s made clear. That’s why it was always a question of when, not if, with him. But that’s coming from him, that’s not us filling in blanks, he’s saying that.”
Time will tell if the Russian star can help Chicago skate back into the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
