During a recent interview, WWE backstage correspondent Cathy Kelly candidly revealed that she was recently diagnosed with autism.
Speaking with Chris Van Vliet (via Fightful), Kelly was asked about the idea of doing a Total Divas reboot. When asked if she’d be able to “turn it on” for the cameras, she talked about how the diagnosis has changed “a lot of the social dynamics that I have.” That could make doing a reality series challenging.
“I think it’s just a different side to me. I was recently diagnosed with autism and I recognize that it changes a lot of the social dynamics that I have. So when I say introverted, I feel like it’s a little bit more than a typical person would be.”
WWE’s Cathy Kelly also underwent surgery this year
It has been an eventful year for Kelly. Earlier in the year, she underwent an egg freezing retrieval surgery. She revealed the news via Instagram.
“Between egg freezing retrieval surgery, interrupted interviews, and a severe shortage of french toast sticks… it’s been a week!” Kelley wrote. “[I] wouldn’t have survived it without a care team who somehow pulled off a schedule that didn’t take me out of a single day of work and truly incredible friends who kept me (semi) sane throughout (especially [Lindy Lin] for weathering the anesthesia induced tears).”
Kelly’s relationship and time covering WWE started over a decade ago. In 2012, she worked for AfterBuzz TV, serving as a panelist for recap shows on Monday Night RAW, NXT, and other shows like The Bachelor.
She’d later sign with WWE in 2016, working as a correspondent for NXT and other events. Kelly would then leave WWE in 2020, pursuing acting. Kelly would make her acting debut in the Netflix series #blackAF. She’d return to WWE in 2022, joining RAW as a backstage interviewer. She has since jumped between RAW and SmackDown.
