Cubs place Jameson Taillon on IL

Jameson Taillon will be out for a while, with the Chicago Cubs putting the right-handed pitcher on the injured list.

“Cubs put Jameson Taillon on the IL with a left hamstring strain. Ethan Roberts up from Triple-A. Matt Shaw comes back from the IL. Kevin Alcántara goes back to Triple-A,” Vinnie Duber of the Chicago Sun-Times shared via a social media post on X, formerly Twitter.

Taillon appeared to suffer an injury early in his start last Saturday versus the visiting San Francisco Giants at Wrigley Field in Chicago. He pitched for just an inning, allowing an earned run on two hits with two walks and two strikeouts through 35 pitches before exiting the contest that eventually turned into a 2-1 loss for Chicago.

It has already been announced that Taillon’s injury concerns his hamstring, and such a lower-body issue can be tricky to deal with.

This is yet another blow to the Cubs, particularly to their pitching staff, with another key arm going down with an injury.

The 34-year-old Taillon joins pitchers Matthew Boyd, Hunter Harvey, Justin Steele, Porter Hodge, Riley Martin and Shelby Miller, among others, on the injured list for the Cubs, who are also struggling to put wins together.

Now in his fourth season with the Cubs, James Taillon just has a 2-5 record to go with a 5.19 ERA and 1.300 WHIP through 13 starts so far in the 2026 MLB season. It’s clearly been a down year for him, having gone 11-7 with a 3.68 ERA and 1.057 WHIP in 23 starts in the 2025 campaign.
