Watch Yankees top prospect Spencer Jones crush first MLB home run vs. Guardians

The New York Yankees saw Spencer Jones deliver a milestone swing Tuesday night vs. the Cleveland Guardians. The rookie outfielder crushed his first MLB home run at Progressive Field, flashing the power that still makes him one of the organization’s top prospects.

Jones, the No. 6 overall prospect and top outfield prospect in the Yankees’ system, broke through early with a blast that gave the Yankees a 2-0 lead. For the 25-year-old, the swing turned a stop-and-start beginning to his major league career into an arrival moment.

The Statcast numbers made it more impressive. The rookie outfielder’s first career homer left the bat at 112.2 mph and traveled a projected 443 feet.

MLB posted the clip Tuesday on X, formerly Twitter, as Jones rounded the bases after the first homer of his career.

“Spencer Jones crushes his first Major League home run!”

That contact explains why Jones has carried expectations since New York drafted him in the first round in 2022. His 6-foot-7 frame and raw power have long drawn attention, and Tuesday offered the loudest example of how quickly that strength can change a game.

Jones made his MLB debut May 8 vs. the Milwaukee Brewers, then briefly returned to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on May 22. Since coming back, he has looked more comfortable against major league pitching.

The swing gave the Yankees more than a highlight. It showed Jones can translate minor league power into production against big league arms.

Jones’ opportunity came after the Yankees recalled him last Friday in place of the injured Aaron Judge, giving the 25-year-old another chance to show his power at the major league level.
