Golden Knights’Carter Hart sets unfortunate Stanley Cup Final history

It has been a brutal 2026 Stanley Cup Final for Vegas Golden Knights goalie Carter Hart.

On Tuesday night, Hart hit a low point, as he became just the first netminder ever in NHL history to give up at least four goals in each of the first four games of a Stanley Cup Final series, according to the ESPN broadcast of Game 4 of the series between the Golden Knights and the Carolina Hurricanes.

If it weren’t for the Golden Knights’ offense in the first three games of the series, they probably would have been behind the eight ball after four games. Instead, the series is only tied at 2-2 following the Hurricanes’ 5-3 victory on Tuesday.

All but one of the Hurricanes’ goals in Game 4 came at Hart’s expense, with Carolina netting an empty netter near the end of regulation.

However, the Hurricanes dominated the possession battle in the contest, as they took 28 shots on goal to just 21 by the Golden Knights.

With the Golden Knights losing Game 4, there could be more clamor for Vegas to make a change between the pipes.

If so, Adin Hill could be the guy to replace Hart in front of the net, though he has yet to see action so far in the 2026 Stanley Cup Playoffs. In the 2025-26 regular season, the 30-year-old Hill went 10-9-6 with a 3.04 goals against average and just a .871 save percentage to go along with a shutout through 27 appearances (all starts).

It will be interesting to see what Vegas head coach John Tortorella decides on the goalie front for Game 5 on Thursday at the Lenovo Center in Raleigh, North Carolina.
