The Atlanta Braves have been on a heater throughout the 2026 MLB season, currently sitting at 45-22 despite a recent road loss to the Chicago White Sox. The Braves have seen strong years from several key players on their roster, holding down the fort in the injury absences of multiple starting pitchers and other personnel.
The Braves are expected to have multiple All-Stars this year, including Matt Olson, Drake Baldwin, Chris Sale, and potentially more. However, recently, MLB insider Chad Jennings of The Athletic broke down the case for another unsung player to make it to the big game: utility player Mauricio Dubón.
Jennings noted that Dubon “…filled gaps at shortstop, left field and center field, and despite moving around, ranks top-10 in the majors in Outs Above Average while also putting up above-average offensive numbers. Probably won’t be voted in as a starter or a reserve, but he could be an interesting injury replacement.”
Indeed, the Braves haven’t had a full-time player at the shortstop position this year, rotating several players in and out of the position, including Dubon, who has more than held down the fort in his time there, as well as in other spot on the field.
There is certainly something to be said about putting up solid offensive numbers while constantly having one’s role changed on the defensive side of the field, and Dubon has been an invaluable piece for the Braves in their highly successful 2026 season so far.
The All-Star festivities will be held in Philadelphia this year, so Phillies fans might not be thrilled to have to watch several Braves players compete in the event, but at this point, the MLB might not have a choice but to make that a reality.
